For this project, we heavily utilized Houdini to generate data that we then converted into vertex colours to drive our effects shaders in Unreal Engine 5. We then combined this with Niagara parameter bindings to allow us to achieve complex behaviour and coherent blending between the different stages of the effect systems we built.
